For the past few years, technological and vocational education in Taiwan has been substantially developed. To further enhance the quality of this education, it is essential to establish the link between technological and vocational institutions in Taiwan and those in the developed countries. The purpose of this website for Technological and Vocational Education is to increase the opportunities for international cooperation and furthermore, to promote exchange agreements. This site contains information about programs, grants, and events related to universities of technology, colleges/junior colleges of technology, vocational high schools, school-to-work program, extension program and skill testing.
The technological and vocational education (TVE) system covers a wide range of disciplines as described in the following:
The system spans from technical and handicraft courses in junior high schools, vocational schools and junior colleges to technological institutes and science and technology-oriented universities. Up to the year 2006, more than 1.1 million students and 300,000 teachers are participated in the system.
The subjects and disciplines taught under the system include agriculture, industry, commerce, fishery, marine technology, medicine and nursing, home economics, hotel management and tourism, and language. The scope of this system ranges from the fields of science and technology, training, to employment and business. Within such a complex system, the propagation of related information through conventional means and technology can no longer meet our needs. Thanks to the National Information Infrastructure (NII) project, construction of a high-speed network is already under way to put TVE related information online.
So far, most technological and vocational schools have established their own web sites. However, there is as yet no integration among these sites. Most schools spend considerable time to complete the structural analysis and specifications of their web site systems, but the design rarely meets the public's needs. Technical and vocational schools at all levels need to help to establish and maintain their web sites.
TVE plays an important role in the promotion of lifetime learning. To satisfy public demand for TVE, there is an urgent need to quickly pass information of learning opportunities related to TVE to the general public via the Internet.
Technologies of web site development and construction have been existed for several years. However, presenting a web site system to TVE institutions with a detailed and carefully planned infrastructure from construction to maintenance has never been done before. The "TVE information web specifications" mark the first step of the construction of TVE web sites. A long road and unlimited room for development is ahead of us, especially in the areas of maintenance management and design of web sites.
Future directions for the TVE information web and the ways it will be promoted.
- Web site contests for technological and vocational schools belonging to the TVE information web.
- Regular updates and routine security checks for TVE web sites. Providing links between TVE web site and other related and useful ones.
- Internet information feedback for better TVE information.
- Expert advice on TVE web site updates and maintenance.
Goals : TVE information web shall play the following roles in the future.
- An instrument providing the general public with access to all learning opportunities and valuable resources of TVE institutions for establishing a lifetime learning environment and realizing the vision of a learning society.
- The most efficient and convenient tool for potential students and their parents to learn more about schools or help make decisions of school applications.
- A bridge between industries and TVE schools for the establishment of partnership and collaboration projects.
- An efficient and direct instrument for academic research and knowledge exchange.
- An effective channel for the general public to learn about TVE, to monitor its operation, and to help improve the quality of it.
We have confidence that the transparent
and efficient propagation approach of the TVE information
web will transform TVE schools into highly interactive lifetime
learning institutions.
